On Sunday, November 29, the plant at the GNL Quintero Terminal will again shut down as part of its annual maintenance program.

Unlike the shutdowns on November 7 and 15, this shutdown will begin at 08:00 and will have an estimated duration of 12 hours. The reception and unloading of liquefied natural gas (LNG), the dispatch of natural gas to the pipeline network and the loading of trucks with LNG will also be interrupted.

Although this total plant shutdown will be shorter, it is possible, since processes will be halted, that the Terminal flame may be lit intermittently, particularly during the afternoon.

It is important to remember that the flame is lit to burn off the excess natural gas that is generated. This produces a visible flame but, as we have explained previously, causes practically no emissions and does not generate black smoke because natural gas burns very cleanly. In addition, the flame’s use is permitted under our Environmental Qualification Resolution (RCA) and is envisaged in the GNL Quintero Operational Plan approved by the environmental authorities.

Scheduled maintenance shutdowns are part of an improvement program to enable us to continue ensuring a clean operation, with high reliability and safety standards, through which to supply LNG and natural gas to central Chile.

All the work is carried out under strict safety measures and the permanent supervision of specialized technical teams. These activities have also been duly coordinated with the energy sector authorities and our clients.
